Okay, questions for *you*....

Who's the anon lurker with whom I used to post on the BB?

Where, exactly, are my European and Antipodean minions posting from? I plan, now that I have a reason to celebrate, to visit the other side of the planet, and sleep on all y'all's couches. (You don't have to be specific as to an area; I just want to know that nobody had their ceiling come down in Christchurch.)

Answers if you're comfortable with them being public in the comments, please, or email me at johannebertha at gmail dot com.

I love your blog - race to it every day - and, as a brain cancer survivor, have been remembering, oh, a lot, as you have endured the last too-many-days. It is wonderful to see it all come to a place that's not so hard to face (like when my neurologist said, Well, if you had to have a brain tumor...").

Anyway, I am 1) not a nurse, 2) not in another cool country, but if you ever have any interest in Marin County, just north of San Francisco, I'm a regular Warm Showers host ( a website that lets bicyclists find shelter all over) and would love to meet & house you.

    But for now, Hurray, hurray!!!!

  3. I live in the North Island of NZ, in Hawkes Bay, a long way from Christchurch which is in the other island. Hawkes Bay gets its fair share of quakes, though! No need to rough it on the couch, I have an actual spare bedroom and you are very welcome!

  4. Northern Norway here! Cant even remember how I found your blog, it was ages ago!

  5. I'm a Brit in NZ - based just outside Wellington - very happy to offer a bed for a visit. Gorgeous countryside on one side, city living on the other, and Lord of the Rings locations round the corner :-)

  6. Busan, South Korea.

Anytime you happen to be in the area, (It's only about a twelve hour flight, you could just drop in for a weekend!) you're welcome to drop by.

I can't promise four star food, but I could introduce you to bulgogi and soju.

I'm a French student in Brittany and have been reading your blog for about a year -- it kept me well entertained during the last eight months I spent working in Bangladeshi slums!

If you're touring the world, feel free to couchsurf over here!

I'm a geriatric nurse from Copenhagen, Denmark. I've been following your Bkog for about 6 months and I think it's a great inspiration. Thanks to you Jo - I now make sure to touch my patients with an ungloved hand every single shift. I really feel it has made a difference in the way I relate to my patients and I intend on keep doing it.

  13. Hello! ~wavey~ I'm in Manchester in north-west England, the country's second city.

Although people from Birmingham might disagree with that.

I'm entertained that you have so many Kiwi readers.

  14. If anyone from France posts here, I am SO crashing on your couch.

Did I just scare people off?

I'm in Middle England, almost literally, as the alleged centre of England (Meriden) is about 10 miles away. The population of Meriden was somewhat affronted when it was announced that (whisper) they're not actually in the middle.

If you want more Lord of the Rings locations, we are really near Sarehole Mill, which inspired Tolkein. Highlights of the local countryside this week: two robins, a rabbit and a squirrel in close conversation, and a kingfisher flying down the river. Highlights of the city: more curry from Birmingham's famous balti triangle.

Sales pitch over - happy to host with a Belgian beer and a bed if you decide to visit the Brits.

Been reading you regularly - my daughter in law has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour and so far I have not even been able to write about it... but your recent journey has been interesting and I am crossing a lot of fingers and toes for you..
She has managed to write about it though - the most recent post is here:

  17. Oh, and likewise with bed, food, kitties and general TLC being yours for the duration if you're seriously considering visiting the UK.

I'm not far from the coast and ferries to Ireland and the Isle of Man to the West and Bronte country, the Peak District and some of England's best historic houses to the West.

But if I were you I'd totally go to New Zealand rather than the UK, it's absolutely stunning out there.

  18. Ah ha, my thoughts exactly. Im a nurse at the local hospital here in Christchurch New Zealand (Hi other chch follower.) Another earthquake survivior, our house is now minus chimmneys but our hospitality is not broken. A long time reader, occasional poster, (esp about animals having a furry cat fiend of my own who is doing spectacularly annoyoing and dangerous window sill activities as we speak). Jo come and stay, Kiwis offer the best hospitality in the world. Get well soon and come visit.

  22. Northern Italy calling! I'm about one and a half hours from Innsbruck on the south side of the Alps - or, alternatively, a couple of hours north of Lake Garda. I'm a Brit living in a German-speaking area - so it's all very international!

  24. Dear Jo, I've been reading you for years, since I was a nursing student, and now I've been practicing for nearly four years! I've learned a whole lot from you. I'm so glad that you got through some Challenging Stuff first, and wrote about it, like the First Year of being a nurse, and getting through the Worse Breakup of Your Life (which maybe you haven't written about so much as alluded to, but hearing about your fabulous life now has been so great) and Home Ownership (which hasn't happened to me yet but maybe will one day soon).

I live on the same continent as you, but if you ever want to visit San Francisco I have a lovely couch and I know some sweet spots for drinks and dinner. Oh, and it's a lovely 62 degrees most of the year.

    Big love.

  25. I live on the island of Saipan in the Western Pacific Ocean. 1500mi SE of Tokyo, 90mi North of Guam. I have a huge house, with a 150 degree view of the ocean, a spare bedroom and an affectionate inside cat and outside dog. Come visit as long as you want. Seriously.
Oh and a classroom full of nursing students who would love to hear about nursing in America, from someone other than me. :)

  26. I'm an ICU nurse from Brisbane, Australia. I've been reading your blog for about a year, and frequently read out bits that make me laugh to my husband. No couch surfing here, a whole spare room, but you might have to have a discussion about sharing the bed with one or two of the three cats!
