I dare you to watch this and not grin like a lunatic:
Does anybody else have the urge to do the routine they learned as part of Strutter tryouts in high school? I hear this song, and "Let's Hear It For The Boy" and I'm transported to that two weeks in June of 1984, before I realized I. Can't. DANCE.
Possibly the best dance routine ever filmed: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7166448883120539209# The Nicholas brothers with an intro by Cab Calloway.
Not a chance... Both me and my wife had a side-splitting grin about 3 seconds in. The video is now spreading like a wildfire in Nurse Sarah's (my lovely wife's) Facebook community. I gotta rely on old-fashioned word of mouth.. but what a great find :-)
You had me at the cover photo. White Nights is one of my favorite movies ever. How many 15 year old girls do you know that had a poster of Baryshnikov over their bed instead of Kirk Cameron or such? And no, I wasn't a dancer...
Great find. I've added to my favorites for whenever I need a pick up.
Moose: Drill Team for a Texas high school, which means the utter tippy-top of the social strata. Which I was not ready for, being flexible enough, but having no rhythm.
It worked out well; I ended up hanging with the girls with mohawks and listening to U2 in the back of a New Yorker.
tried, couldn't do it. also tapped my two left feet together. nice find.

Got my feet moving this morning. Very good for when the day starts to slowly.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I hate it when people say "oh come on, everybody can dance." No, everybody can not dance. Don't make me prove it to you.
ReplyDeleteIs it bad that I recognize the movies starring Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, but not the more recent movies?
ReplyDelete... Strutter tryouts?
ReplyDeleteAlso, needed some Blues Brothers. :-)
That made my week! The only movie I was waiting for and didn't see was Center Stage. Did I miss it?
ReplyDeleteNow I just need the names of all the assorted movies!
ReplyDeleteGreat! I can't dance for beans, but wish I could.

ReplyDeleteNurse Markus
I loved 7 Brides for 7 Brothers...
ReplyDeleteI was cueing up vinyl 45s of "Let's Hear It For The Boy" at 3am when you were learning that routine. Who'd'a thunk of where we'd end up?
ReplyDeleteLOVE this video.

Whoa...too many flashbacks in that!
ReplyDeleteYes, loved White Knights, Flashdance, and especially Dirty Dancing....it was the time of MY life, thank you very much.
I like very athletic dancing, so went with modern, since ballroom is not so forgiving...
Doesn't make me want to dance, but it does make me want to search the internets for pictures of Mikhail Baryshnikov.
ReplyDeleteNo, not THOSE kinds of pictures...Well, maybe those kind, also.
